Laura Gardiner is a wonderful example of what one person can achieve. She, inspired by our mutual first teacher in Ayrshire, Brenda Smith, has built from scratch a thriving violin and music community in Lincolnshire with workshops, performances, individual and ensemble lessons. You can imagine my delight upon receiving her text which read ‘I am bringing 17 children and their parents to your concert, would you have time to meet them?’ I would love to get a message like that for every concert! It must be said, though, that I see an increasing number of entire classes or music groups brought to concerts by teachers. I would love to meet more of you, please never hesitate to ask if you’d like to bring young students backstage.’
Oasby Music group kindly sent in these photos. They were taken backstage after the recent sold out concert at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall. Nicky was performing Brahms’ Violin Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
